The medical model that I refer to is the framework of dealing with addiction by treating “sick†people. This treatment is done by “well†people. I guess it started as a way to deal with denial. The basic problem with this whole line of thinking is that you can call someone “well†by sending them to take classes about symptoms and this would determine the level of “help†that is given.
